Food is processed so that it should last long, making it more convenient. When the food is processed; high level of salt, sugar, preservatives and trans-fat is introduced in the food. Also, food processing removes some of the nutrients, vitamins and fiber present in the food. Processed food, as not the organic one, is bad for your health if consumed on the daily basis. It contains unnecessary additives which may affect the ability to compromise the human body’s function and are suggested to be related to the development of skin, pulmonary and psycho-behavioral conditions.

Eating processed foods can have a negative impact on your health for a number of reasons. Processed foods are typically high in calories, sugar, unhealthy fats, and sodium, and low in essential nutrients like fiber, vitamins, and minerals. This can lead to weight gain, high blood pressure, and a range of other health problems.

Additionally, processed foods often contain artificial additives, preservatives, and chemicals that are used to enhance their flavor, texture, and shelf life. These substances have been linked to various health issues, including cancer, inflammation, and hormonal imbalances.

By contrast, a diet that emphasizes whole, minimally processed foods can provide a wide range of health benefits. Whole foods are typically rich in nutrients, fiber, and antioxidants, which can help to improve overall health and reduce the risk of chronic diseases like heart disease, diabetes, and cancer.

Making the switch to a whole foods-based diet can be challenging, but it is worth the effort to improve your health and well-being in the long term.

  1. May have long term effect on health:

Processed food contains artificial sweetener. Aspartame, one of the artificial sweetener, may lead to accumulation of formaldehyde after consumption, and one of the breakdown products of aspartame in the intestine is the toxic compound methanol. Research have shown that regular consumption of aspartame can cause long-term effect on health.

  1. Can cause Asthma:

Commonly used preservative known as sulfites are prohibited to be used in foods that provide the nutrient vitamin B1 because it can destroy this vitamin. Still sulfites are used in many processed food such as preserved fruits and vegetables. Sulfites have been found to aggravate asthma in children and adults. Between ten to fifteen percent of chronic asthmatics are thought to be sulfite sensitive.

  1. Increases bad cholesterol:

Processed food is loaded with trans-fat to increase the shelf-life of the product. It is hydrogenated fats which are found in crackers, cookies, snack foods and numerous other processed foods. Regular consumption of trans-fat has shown increase in LDL cholesterol (bad cholesterol) which is commonly known to increase the chances of heart disease.

  1. It may cause genetic disorder:

Processed food is all about use of preservatives. The most commonly used preservative in snack food, baked food, french fries, butter, cereals and chewing gum is BHT (butylated hydroxytoluene). When consumed at higher level, BHT has been shown to induce tumors in the stomach and liver in human beings. Also, research have shown that high consumption of BHT and BHA can cause genetic disorder.

  1. It can cause skin diseases:

Most processed foods are colored with synthetic or additional coloring agents. A variety of types of coloring agents are used, including many synthetic compounds to make it attractive. Some of these coloring additives have been found to promote hypersensitivity reactions in people, especially children and are also related to the inflammatory skin conditions such as urticaria and atopic dermatitis.
In short, the processed food is bad. They are the main reason why people all over the world are getting fat and sick. So, the bottom line is avoid processed food and rely on organic food.
