Not only the food we eat everyday affects our health but the herbs and spices that we use to enhance the flavor of the food also have effect. Herbs and spices contains natural medicinal properties and it is inexpensive and naturally heal our body. In this article we are going to discuss some of these medicinal herbs, some of which we can even grow at our home.

1.Tulsi (Basil)
Tulsi, also scientifically known as Ocimum tenuiflorum, has much significance in Hindu religion. Having numerous medicinal benefits, tulsi also acts as a natural anti-inflammatory to reduce flatulence and nausea. It also possesses antiseptic properties and can boost appetite. It is helpful to treat headaches and indigestion.

2.Turmeric
Turmeric, scientifically known as Curcuma longa, is used as medicine from the ancient times. It contains bio-active compounds with powerful medicinal properties. It consists of curcumin, which gives turmeric a strong anti-inflammatory effect. Consuming turmeric regularly can dramatically increase anti-oxidant capacity of the body. Curcumin in turmeric also helps to reverse the steps in heart disease process.

3.Cinnamon
Cinnamomum cassia, generally known as cinnamon has many health benefits. Many of us know cinnamon just as one of the ingredient which enhances taste and doesn’t know that it basically possess medical properties. It is packed with anti-oxidants that prevents free radical damage and provide anti-aging property. The special compounds present in cinnamon helps to reduce total cholesterol levels, LDL (bad) cholesterol and triglycerides, while HDL (good) cholesterol remains stable.

4.Ginger
Scientifically known as Zingiber officinale, ginger is the top medicine when it comes to nausea, pregnancy, motion sickness and loss of appetite. The ginger is the root which can be consumed fresh, dried, powdered as well as in juice form. It contains high levels of gingerol, a substance with powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Ginger may reduce muscle pain and soreness too. Some studies also says that it contains anti-cancerous properties.

5.Parsley 
This green herb which is typically used for garnishing, promotes energy and improves blood circulation. Consuming parsley is good for the stomach. It also fights the kidney infections, bladder ailments, flatulence, and help with bad breath or even anemia. Parsley is also a diuretic in nature.
