  • Universally Accepted

    Insurance recognized by hospitals that you work in, in India and overseas. Meets contractual requirements that you may have

  • Comprehensive Cover

    Covers claims made by your patients for negligence or wrong treatment or mishaps. The insurance will pay the costs of litigation, court fees and settlements. We typically place these insurance with an Any one Accident : Any one Year ratio of 1:1. This implies that you can claim your full sum assured for any claim. 1:2 and 1:4 ratios are also common but severely restrict your cover

  • Original Retroactive Date

    Covers claims related to any event after the retroactive date. This is specified as the start date when the first professional indemnity insurance was bought. So, if you have an insurance in force for the past three years and there is a suit pertaining to a surgery or case two years ago that will be covered

  • Legal support

    Some insurers will provide you legal advice and support to defend yourself. In a few cases they will take on the obligation of fighting your case

WHY CLAIMS GET REJECTED?

Prior Period Exclusion

Claims pertaining to a period before the retroactive date are not covered. If there is a break in the renewal of the insurance then the retroactive date is reset to the start date of the new insurance. We prevent this by ensuring timely renewal

Known Issues

Claims that come about from an issue that was known before the insurance was bought are rejected. The insurer will cross examine the case closely to see when the doctor became aware of the matter. This can be addressed by clearly describing any known issues when you buy your first professional indemnity cover

Unlawful practice

If the information in the proposal form is different from actual practice you run the risk of claim rejection. For example, you may state that you have trained nurses but may not; you may have used an OT that is not properly licensed; or not declared your specialty appropriately in the form. We address this by ensuring that the proposal form is well filled and you understand the implications of each information

  • Claim Documentation

    Provide the completed claim form, legal notices, court and other correspondence on the matter, estimate of legal fees, letter of subrogation. Prescription copies or medical records are also helpful. Do not admit liability without informing the insurer.

  • Add-on Covers

    Extensions can be purchased to cover litigation overseas as well, by your foreign patients. An emergency cover can be purchased that provides money to you at short notice.

  • Exclusions

    The main exclusions are known issues, prior acts, unlicensed practice and surgeries outside your typical scope. This is a long list but we can help you navigate and understand these exclusions.
